Most Recent Round of Baby Appointments

Hello all!

It has been an exciting week here in  Roanoke! My birthday was on Sunday, and my sisters and nephew surprised me with a visit! That was a lot of fun. We celebrated the day by... watching the Patriots lose. BUT, it was an awesome time anyway. My mom sent (literally) an entire laundry basket full of food. And not healthy food either. The good stuff. I was a happy camper. Matt made and decorated my favorite cake for me. He should go on Cake Boss-- the man has some serious talent :)

On Monday I had my seventeen week check up with my regular doctor. It was the most uneventful visit yet-- just the kind I've been looking forward to. I stepped on the scale. I stepped off the scale. We listened to the baby's heart beat, which sounded great! Despite the fact that I've been eating like a mad woman, and the fact that I'm starting to show now, I apparently lost three pounds. She's not concerned about it and said the baby seems healthy!

That night my sisters, Matt, and I went to Babies 'R' Us. It was the first time we'd actually looked at baby stuff since hearing the news, so that was a really exciting trip. We're fairly limited as to what we can look at now, as we don't know the gender yet, but we walked out with a purchase! My big sister very graciously offered to buy our crib and changing table for us, so we were thrilled to shop around. We picked out both the crib and the changing table, but they didn't have the crib in stock. I've always had fairly simple taste, and the most simple looking crib in the joint was immediately my favorite. We will post pictures soon.

On Wednesday (yesterday) I had my second seventeen week check-up-- this time with the specialist. Aside from the hour or so wait, this was also fairly uneventful. They took an ultrasound and the baby looks awesome! He or she is getting so big! (Don't I know it.) They were successfully able to identify the fact that our baby has genitals (a good sign), but couldn't determine gender yet. So, close, but we still have a few more weeks to go.

I talked to the doctor for maybe two minutes tops. He said everything looks great. He said he could be wrong, but the mass still looks like a fibroid to him and nothing has changed on that front. We walked away with four new pictures of baby-- two of which were surprisingly detailed face shots. If I knew how to work this new fangled scanner type thing attached to my printer, I'd post them here... but as I am technologically impaired, we'll have to wait for Matt. Haha.

We'll meet with our regular doctor again in four weeks where she will do an ultrasound to attempt to identify gender. A day later will be the specialist's appointment where they'll do another one. So we have two chances next time! Until then!

  1. I had to send "junk" food now so that you could get it out of your system before next week when the brain starts to develop! Dad and I are thinking we could stop in to see you guys in March on our way to Florida for Michaels baseball. The dates for Florida are like the 9th through the 14th I think, or very close to those dates and we thought we would stop each way for a night to help break up our trip, see your baby bump and of course you and Matt as well. Take care, I love these posts! Can't wait to see the new pictures! Love you both! Mom
